One Thing at a Time

Anticipating big events, trips, or milestones can sometimes make everything else around you feel less important. This year, I’ve caught myself hyperfixating on things I’m excited for, things that might be months away or daydreaming about the future and all the goals I hope to accomplish. While excitement is great, it can also distract us from the people and moments happening right in front of us.
With finals and Christmas break on the horizon, I know “the most wonderful time of the year” can quickly become the most hectic. It’s tempting to focus solely on what’s ahead rather than what’s happening now. But instead of wishing the days away or getting consumed by stress, take a moment to be present. Appreciate the people around you. Start a conversation with someone new. Strengthen the connections you already have.
Of course, it’s important to stay excited about the future—but remember, it’s not guaranteed. Plans change, and so do people. Don’t spend life waiting for specific moments to arrive, instead, find joy in the present. When you focus on what’s happening right now, you may discover unexpected connections, passions, or opportunities.
You might even find that those “big moments” you were anticipating sneak up on you even quicker than you'd hoped. Taking life one step at a time helps you appreciate the small joys and build a foundation for even greater things to come. So, as you look ahead, don’t forget to embrace the moment.
With Love,
